Meet writer Sarah Rooney, author of the new book “30 Heritage Buildings of Yangon”. This work focuses on the city’s surviving colonial-era structures. From rows of humble shop houses to grand edifices of the Empire, the sheer density of these buildings is unparalleled in Southeast Asia. The book was researched in conjunction with the Association of Myanmar Architects (AMA), and the author notes that the biggest threat to these heritage structures is lack of protection; as Myanmar opens up to foreign investment they are likely to fall prey to property developers in search of prime plots in the city center. Join us for a cocktail reception with wine and snacks, followed by a short presentation.
